A few hours before moving in, we fill the waterers with water, so that its temperature reaches a minimum temperature of 25 degrees Celsius by the time the one-day-old chicks move in. In the first days of life, it is necessary to introduce additional manual waterers so that the chicks can find their way around more easily and start drinking water immediately. After the filled age of 7 days, there is a step of lowering the water temperature, which affects the maintenance of good food digestibility and reduces the possibility of mortality. We should place the drinking fountains in such a way that they are accessible to the chickens every 1 meter. Drinking water must be clean.
Water consumption changes in proportion to the change in ambient temperature. Drinking bowls must never be empty. Broilers always drink from the same waterer and have a hard time switching to another one if the one they are used to is empty.
During this period, food conversion is drastically reduced. Also, the height of the waterer should follow the growth of the chickens, i.e. it should always be slightly above the height of their backs.
The feeders must also be filled with food before the chicks arrive. It is necessary to add shallow feeding trays to facilitate the availability of food to the chicks at the beginning of fattening.
